AOI WORLD ILLUSTRATION AWARDS - Exposed

Embarrassed by my own body hair protected under my towel, I realise other woman are not judging me because they too are busy hiding their own bodies. Society is embarrassed by the natural body hair, unlike the hair that frames our faces? Contrast to this mirrored idea the towel is uncomfortably shielding the shy upper body leaving lower body unprotected, uncovered & revealed, ready to be judged.

Intended to help others see the natural beauty of unveiled body hair, blemishes & marks in all its beautiful & interesting glory. An expression questioning personal experiences relating to the exposed natural female form, the relationship & attitudes towards this. Challenged to be personally exposed by putting this idea on display for others to judge, but a proud piece to add to my portfolio.

The image was made using biro & pencil onto Calligraphy Parchment paper. The material resembles transparent & flawed natural skin with its watermarked blemishes, and the biro permanently tattooing the skin and vein like Parchment paper. The image was scanned & edited in Photoshop to perfect as my best entry piece submitted into the AOI World Illustration Awards 2020 and selected as a long listed artist, ironically a technique used to perfect the female form for media consumption.
