168 RWA Annual Open Exhibition - Exposed

From the 21st November 2020 to 7th March 2021 my selected entry piece Exposed will be hung on the gallery walls of the 168th RWA Annual Open Exhibition in the city of Bristol.

The piece of work is intended to help others see the natural beauty of unveiled body hair, blemishes & marks in all its beautiful & interesting glory.

An expression questioning personal experiences relating to the exposed natural female form, the relationship & attitudes towards this. Challenged to be personally exposed by putting this idea on display for others to judge, but a proud piece to add to my portfolio.

The image was made using Biro & Pencil onto Calligraphy Parchment paper.

The material resembles transparent & flawed natural skin with its watermarked blemishes, and the biro permanently tattooing the skin and vein like Parchment paper.

Contact - Exhibition at The Princess Theatre & Arts Centre, Somerset

The Princess Theatre & Arts Centre commissioned 10 Somerset based visual artists to create a body of work that reflects lockdown and the lack of human contact to create an exhibition called Contact, thanks to ACE’s emergency response grant, funded by the National Lottery.

In response to the exhibition brief, my commissioned piece Embrace explores an illustrative representation of a stripped and decontaminated individual, exposed and vunerable. However, comforted, shielded and embraced by an object in the form of a towel, absorbing emotions.

The illustration expresses strong biro and pencil marks, that are accompanied by an assemblage of components often paper, photographs and things found to create layers of interesting textures and colours.

For the exhibition I was asked What do you miss about lockdown or what have you discovered during lockdown in 30 words and my response Time with family and friends has been negatively abscent, yet time positively present to focus on creativity. In turn lockdown has led to participation in this exciting exhibition - Contact.

The artwork by all 10 artists will be available to view from the 2nd November to 21st December and is presented on The Princess Theatre & Arts Centre’s digital platform www.theprincesstheatre.co.uk The original artwork will also be hung in the gallery space in the Theatre for visitors to see when it re-opens in Princess Street, Burnham‑on‑Sea, Somerset, TA8 1EH

RWA Annual Open Exhibition Results

Bristol’s Royal Academy presents it’s 168th Annual Open Exhibition and I am really pleased to say that my entry Exposed has been selected for the exhibition amongst 600 works of emerging and established artists.

This is a story I had started to write a few years ago, whilst on my lunch breaks at work wishing and hoping I could make it as an illustrator, so this has been a few years in the making picking at gradually.

I wanted to share the importance of keeping going with something, don’t give up its never too late.

World Illustration Awards 2020 - Longlist Artist

I am pleased to shout about being selected as a Longlisted Artist for the AOI World Illustration Awards 2020.

My entry “Exposed” celebrates the natural female form in all its glory, was selected by a judging panel to be included in the World Ilustration Awards 2020 Longlist, and this will be presented to art directors online to view.

There are only 500 entries selected on the longest.
